1. used in negative sentences and questions to talk about sth that has not happened but that you expect to happen(用于否定句和疑问句,谈论尚未发生但可能发生的事):
(BrE) I haven't received a letter from him yet.
我还没有收到他的信呢。
(NAmE) I didn't receive a letter from him yet.
我还没有收到过他的信。
"Are you ready?" "No, not yet,"
“你准备好了吗?”“还没有。”
We don't yet know what really happened.
我们还不知道到底发生了什么。
We have yet to decide what action to take (= We have not decided what action to take)
我们尚未决定采取何种行动。

2. (used in negative sentences 用于否定句)now; as soon as this 现在;即刻;马上:
Don't go yet.
先别走。
We don't need to start yet.
我们不必马上开始。

3. used to emphasize an increase in number or amount or the number of times sth happens(强调次数或数量的增加):
snow, snow and yet more snow
下雪,下雪,还要下雪
yet another diet book
又是一本关于节食的书
Prices were cut yet again (once more, after many other times).
物价再一次降低。

4. used to emphasize that sth is the best, longest, etc. thing of its kind made, produced, written, etc. until now/then 迄今为止,到当时为止(最好、最长等的):
the most comprehensive study yet of his music

It was the tallest building yet constructed anywhere.

在第一个句子中,yet 相当于“but(但是)”;在第二个句子中它相当于“however(不过)”但它比原来两个词汇所形成的语气变化更轻一些;在第三个句子中,yet是“still(仍然还)”的温和替代词。与It still hasn't come(它还没到呢)相比较,选择yet而不是它的同义词,这是出于文体和强调方面的考虑,而且它为推论式写作提供了有用的替代词。在“朗文语法”语料库中,yet在学术文章中比在会话中要常见两倍以上。

副词yet与to结合,表明还没有发生的过程,或是将要通过的关卡:
The conductor has yet to confirm the terms of his Berlin contract.
